Pickwick Group (Pickwick) joined its Indigenous JV partner, Pickwick 1A Services (P1A) to celebrate this year’s NAIDOC Week.
To celebrate NAIDOC 2020, Pickwick joined P1A owner Carolyn Malone and staff at the Mt Gravatt Showgrounds in Brisbane.
NAIDOC is a culturally safe and informative day where family and community comes together through culture and storytelling to build bridges and relationships for shared futures.
At this year’s event we were honoured to hear Aunty Christine Barney a Woppaburra Elder, P1A Director and Wandarrah Kindergarten President to share her history and connection to her beautiful Great Keppel Island country on the day through Storytelling.
NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Each year celebrations are held nationally (usually in July) in recognition of the history, culture and achievements of Indigenous Australians. This year’s theme, ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’ recognises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years.
